Swiss-made luxury watche supplies have jumped on the local market, as US$215 million valued such imports entered last year via Shanghai Customs, dominating the total US$220 million valued watch imports, Customs officials said.
Value of the total watch imports, a jump of nearly 50 percent over the previous year, mounts to three quarters of last year's watch and clock imports.
Of the Swiss imports, 556 watches are valued over US$10,000 apiece.
Anticipating a high potential of China's luxury market, overseas watch giants have been enhancing their presences in the country, among which luxury brands as Longines, Rado, Rolex, Tudor, Omega and Jaeger le Conltre appear.
Vacheron Constantin, for example, has opened its first Shanghai boutique following introducing the previous two in Beijing and Dalian, today's Laodong Daily said.
