Local high-end color TVs have seen more price cuts, while prices for
refrigerators, washing machines and air-conditioners have edged up slightly,
today's Shanghai Evening Post reported.
Luxury TV producers have already
begun a price war early this month although the weeklong May Day holiday, the
traditional sales peak for home appliances, is still weeks away.
At the
beginning of this year, a domestic 42-inch Plasma TV was around 15,000 yuan
(US$1,800) while a joint venture brand sold at up to more than 20,000 yuan. But
now, many models are priced at about 14,000 yuan, with some even below 13,000
yuan.
Moreover, a 31-inch liquid crystal TV is less than 10,000 yuan, and the
37-inch model is down to below 18,000 yuan.
Rapid upgrading of luxury TVs has
made prices fluctuate every two or three months on average, said an industry
analyst, adding that with production costs declining and production scale
expanding, luxury TV prices are expected to fall further.
However, white home
appliances--refrigerators, washing machines and air-conditioners--have seen
slight price increases due to continuous price increases for raw materials.
Consumers won't feel the impact of the three percent price increases,
however, as there are frequent sales promotions, the analyst said.
