Air-conditioners to display energy label

Family-use air-conditioners must have labels indicating their energy efficiency before they can be marketed locally as of this July, according to today's Oriental Morning Post.
The labels will mark the energy efficiency of the air-conditioners in five grades: the first grade is the most energy efficient while the fifth is the least.
Figures from the Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Company show that over 40 percent of the local power supply is consumed by air-conditioners.
The Company points out that by raising the settings of all the air conditioners in Shanghai  by one degree centigrade, the city would save 300 000 kw during the peak power demand this summer.
The most scientific way for setting air conditioners is to keep the difference in temperature between the indoor and outdoor within seven to nine degree centigrade.
