Shanghai Yongle Household Electrical Appliances Co., a leading home appliance
retailing chain, will launch the so-called "desktop reform" from these weekends
in a one-month promotion campaign for liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors,
today's Laodong Daily reported.
During the program, buyers can have new LCD
monitors with their used Cathode-ray tube (CRT) monitors as trade-ins.
While the values of the trade-ins vary according to the CRT monitors'
conditions, the lowest prices of the LCD monitors will be 1,000 yuan (US$121)
for 15-inch products, 1,500 yuan for 17-inchs and 2,000 yuan for
19-inchs.
The campaign involves nearly all the mainstream LCD brands,
according to Yongle's general manager Bu Jiangyong.
Yongle has planned the
campaign for longer than one year, he said, and it only becomes true this year
because of Yongle's rising business of digital products. "Becoming to a
major retailer of digital products, Yongle is now able to persuade the
manufacturers into joining the promotion program," he explained.
However, the
promotion program will not last long, Bu noted, due to the high costs.
"The profit losses will be large and we can't stand it for a long time," he
said, adding that "It is not yet the right time to see a price avalanche for LCD
monitors".
