Domestic DVD players popular, but less satisfactory

Domestic DVD manufacturers are claiming an increased market share, but
consumers are not as satisfied with their products compared to foreign brands,
according to a survey by the CCID Consulting Company Ltd.
According to
the survey, sales of DVD players nationwide increased from 2.9 million in 2001
to 6.5 million last year and are predicted to exceed eight million units this
year, with market growth of 25 percent.
Among the top ten popular DVD
brands mentioned by 87 percent of interviewees, domestic brands accounted for
71.9 percent while foreign brands accounted for 15.1 percent, according to the
survey.
A little more than 69 percent of interviewees are willing to buy
domestic DVD players while only 20.9 percent are ready to purchase foreign
brands.
Domestic DVD players are enjoying greater popularity and market
shares compared with foreign counterparts, said a survey
analyst.
However, consumers are more satisfied with foreign DVD players
than domestic ones, with Sony and Panasonic claiming the top two places on the
list for consumer satisfaction. Amoisonic DVD, a domestic brand, ranked third,
the survey indicated.
