TCL cuts rear-projection TV prices
11/6/2003 17:52
TCL has cut the price of its 43-inch rear-projection TV to 5,999 yuan
(US$723) in southern cities such as Guangzhou, Nanjing and Wuhan last weekend,
the first time a domestic rear-projection TV has been priced below 6,000 yuan,
eastday.com reported today.
The same price cut will take effect in
Beijing this week.
TCL's move follows price cuts by foreign
rear-projection TV manufacturers.
Hitachi, LG and Toshiba cut prices on
rear-projection TVs in Beijing by more than 10 percent last week, bringing
prices below 7,000 yuan, said Fan Zhijun, executive vice supervisor with the
Nanjing Suning Electric Appliances Group's north China branch.
"The price
cut involves all the rear-projection TV models, with the maximum cut reaching 20
percent, or 2,900 yuan," said Liu Buchen, spokesman with TCL. "We implemented
the measure in southern cities last weekend, and will continue it in other
cities this week," Liu added.
"We will cooperate with a home appliance
retailing giant in Beijing to offer more promotions this week," said Wang
Chunlin, manager of TCL's Beijing office.
The price of rear-projection
TVs has gone from 10,000 yuan at the beginning of the year to less than 6,000
yuan, a drop of 40 percent.
The production scale expansion for
rear-projection TVs has sharply reduced production costs, said an industry
analyst.
