Continuous heave
wave fails to drive up air-conditioner sales this year as expected, the Labor
Post reported today. Only two customers are consulting air-conditioners at
the Yaohan Department Store in Pudong. "Fewer people are opting to go to home
appliance hypermarkets rather than department stores to purchase
air-conditioners, as more product models and hefty price cuts are offered
there," said a salesperson in the store. "This year is not as hot as last
year, and air-conditioners are indispensable to every local households, so
residents don't crowd to purchase air-conditioners in summer, said a seller with
the Laoshan outlet of Shanghai Yongle Household Electrical Appliances. "Compared
with last year, we sold several hundred fewer air-conditioners this year, so we
got fewer bonuses," he added. However, consumers' environmental protection
and energy-saving awareness is increasing. A 7,800 yuan (US$940) fluorine-free
air-conditioner has attracted many high-end
consumers.
