In an attempt to consolidate its overseas business, China's leading home appliance giant Haier Group will set up a research and development center in India and move all its overseas R&D businesses there, today's Sina.com reported.
The report cited T.K. Banerjee, president and chief executive officer of Haier Appliances (India) Pvt Ltd, Haier's India unit.
At a promotion for Haier's detergent-free washing machine, Banerjee said Haier India plans to move Haier's R&D business overseas to India shortly and to accelerate the development of products catering to the Indian market.
The washing machine unveiled at the promotion is priced at US$769, and has a capacity of 6 kilograms.  It will be sold at Haier retailers throughout India.
The product has received warm market response after its first introduction to the global market in May, according to Banerjee.
"It's our mission to provide products and services on a par with the international standards," he said.
