The local blood administration has released an urgent appeal to Type A blood carriers to donate blood as there is a serious shortage of this type of blood in the local blood banks, reported today's Oriental Morning Post.
Although there are over 4000 bags (units) of blood in the bank at the center,  the proportion of the four types  (A, B, O and AB) in the bank is in serious imbalance.  There are only 414 bags of Type A blood in stock, including 18 bags of Type A negative, which is well below the normal amount of 1200 bags.
However, there are over 1700 bags of Type-B in storage, by 40 percent of the total.
"Type A negative is a very rare blood type in our country, " explained one official from the blood administration. "However the blood from over ten Type A negative donators can be used up by one patient if he needs a blood transfusion."
"We are actively expanding the work of voluntary blood donation in the city, and we hope more citizens will take part in this work." appealed the official.
