"Jitai Tablets", a traditional Chinese medicine for treating drug addiction,
has gone into production in the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park in Pudong District,
today's Youth Daily reported.
The new drug is based on a secret prescription
handed down from Yang Jitai, a prominent doctor in the Qing Dynasty. Unlike
other remedies which have addiction potential, patients receiving the new
treatment do not have dependence on the medicine.
As a prescription drug
available in local drugstores, "Jitai Tablet" will be easily accessible to the
city's more than 19,000 registered drug addicts.
According to experts,
methadone is currently nearly the only treatment for drug addiction in
China.
