Insufficient physical exercise and sleep, and spending a long-time sitting in an office, are the top three improper lifestyles that threaten the health of local white-collar employees, according to a survey of office workers aged from 20 to 50, cited in today's Shanghai Morning Post.
At the office, 50 percent of respondents stand only when they go to the washroom; 30 percent stand only when they feel uncomfortable from sitting; but only 12 percent stand every half an hour.
Most office workers ignore physical exercise, with 68 percent hardly participating in sports, while less than ten percent having regular weekly exercise.
Such lifestyles will bring serious health threats, said a medical expert. A growing number of young people have caught orthopedic or cardiovascular system diseases, the expert pointed out, adding that depending too much on air-conditioners, frequent night life, excessive long hours before computers and irregular diets also have a negative impact on health.
