China's first
High Definition Magnetic Resonance (HDMR) scanner is available for use in the
city's Changzheng Hospital. It will help diagnostically with patients who are
difficult to examine with conventional MR technology, according to Shanghai's
first seminar on functional MR technology held on July 30. Patients receiving
MR checks have to maintain a set posture for a certain period of time, which is
difficult for those with Parkinson's disease, epileptics and infants. As a
result, it's hard to get clear imaging data from them, said Prof. Liu Shiyuan,
director with the Changzheng Hospital imaging department. The new HDMR equipment
has solved this problem, he said.
