Those amongst us
with bald pates now have a safe and permanent way to have their hair back and
boost their self-confidence.
Mr. Ding, a 61-year-old general manager at a
local company, is now upbeat about his new image since undergoing hair
transplant surgery at the Shanghai Generation Plastic Surgery Hospital a year
ago.
At the relatively-young age of 37, Ding began to shed hair due to an
inherited trait and great work pressure and stress as well. "I was sad and
lacking confidence at that time, but I never believed or tried the various
hair-restoration products, such as those claiming that you can get your hair
back in just seven days," Ding said.
After reading an article in a
newspaper, Ding contacted Doctor Li Guihai, who is in charge of the hair
transplant department at the Hospital, and decided to try the surgery in
September last year. "I consulted Doctor Li on several occasions, and finally I
trusted his professional knowledge and deep analyses," Ding explained.
The
surgery, taking healthy hair follicles from the back and side of the head and
surgically grafting them onto bald patches or where the hair is thinning, takes
more than five hours, with a total of more than 2,000 strands of hair
transplanted.
"I was surprised to have my hair back around six months after
the operation and even more hair thereafter," Ding said excitedly.
The
third-generation hair transplant technology, introduced from the US in 1997, is
a permanent hair replacement solution, with restored hair looking more natural
compared with the previous two traditional technologies, said Doctor Li, who has
performed about 4,000 such surgeries. Shanghai Generation Plastic Surgery
Hospital is the only one in Shanghai to offer such a service, and with prices
ranging from 6,000 to 15,000 yuan (US$740-US$1,850), only one-fifth of that in
foreign countries, a growing number of people from the US and Europe are opting
to undertake the surgery in Shanghai, he said.
