Shanghai had reported a total of 1,506 cases of HIV infection up to November
20 this year, with 164 AIDS patients and a total of 77 deaths from AIDS,
according to a work conference on AIDS prevention yesterday. As part of a
move to create a healthy city, prevention against AIDS should be enhanced by all
local residential communities, with stricter monitoring and inspection.
Scientific research on AIDS prevention should also be stepped-up to help counter
the disease, Shanghai Vice-Mayor Yang Xiaodu said at the conference.
