The Shanghai Food and Drug Administrative Bureau announced yesterday that the
city is keeping a close eye on food from Hunan Province containing the
carcinogen "Sudan I." No such products have been found in the city to
date.
The Hunan quality-supervision department recently found that bean
products and red peppers produced by Changsha Tianyun Food Trade Co Ltd. contain
Sudan I.
The chili source sold in Shanghai is mainly from Hunan, Guizhou and
Jiangxi Province, so it is possible for Sudan I-tainted products to enter the
city. Citizens should be alert when buying such goods and report suspected
products to the appropriate departments, the Shanghai Food and Drug
Administrative Bureau warned.
Sudan I-tainted products, if found in the
city, will be recalled within 72 hours.
