Shanghai's food and drug administration department is keeping a close eye on the duck eggs that may contain Sudan IV, a chemical that may cause cancer. Authorities are suggesting that residents not buy red-yolk, salted duck eggs.
Beijing has banned the sales of some duck eggs, which come from Baiyangdian City in Hebei Province, a place famed for its high quality duck eggs with deep red yolks.
According to the Association for International Cancer Research, Sudan IV may cause cancer. Eating a small amount of these contaminated eggs will not cause cancer, so consumers should not worry, according to Beijing experts.
