The Shanghai Food
and Drug Administrative Bureau and the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Shanghai
branch, plan to build a food-safety evaluation center to strengthen supervision
over food safety.
In the first half of this year, the Shanghai Food and
Drug Administrative Bureau checked 12,557 food products in 17 categories such as
grains, dairy products, cooked food, vegetables, fruits and aquatic products
with 89.3 percent passing the check, up 2.8 percentage points from a year
before.
More than 95 percent of the food in supermarkets, hypermarkets
and farm-product wholesale markets passed the tests.
The local
authorities will also draw up standards and regulations on recalling
questionable food.
