Shanghai's transit authorities take anti-SARS measures
21/4/2003 18:03
The Lins, who arrived at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport yesterday afternoon
on a flight from Beijing, were immediately required to fill out a health form as
a preventive measure against the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome, or
SARS.
Starting today, all air passengers arriving at or leaving from the
Hongqiao and Pudong airports must fill out the health form before check-in or
checkout, which was implemented yesterday for China Eastern Airline and Shanghai
Airline flights.
Any passenger suspected of SARS will be tranported to an
isolation unit for monitoring and treatment.
Bus stations, railway
stations and ferry docks in Shanghai are also taking preventive
measures.
Staff at local railway stations and docks which handle flow
into and out of Shanghai disinfect waiting lounges and public facilities daily.
In addition, the 120 companies operating at the city's 45 long-haul bus stations
have united to implement anti-SARS measures.
In-city transport
facilities, including 20-plus ferries, 8,000-odd buses and 40,000 taxies, are
also disinfected daily.
