Sanitation problem occurs in World Carnival
22/7/2003 18:04

Sanitation problems are found in the on-going Shanghai Pudong World Carnival, with poor disinfected measures likely to spread disease, the Jiefang Daily reported today.
Hordes of visitors to the World Carnival often discard beverage bottles everywhere, which cleaners cannot sweep away promptly, said an industry analyst.
The tokens used in the carnival had previously been sent for disinfection every day, but such measure was suspended several days ago, said a staff member in charge of the ticket sales.
If the token is infected with virus, diseases are very likely to be spread, the analyst said.
Such sanitation problems have aroused worries on the possible return of SARS, he added.
Sanitation measures should be strengthened in large-size entertainment activities, especially during summer, prevalent for intestine diseases, said Yu Shunzhang, professor with the public sanitation institute of Fudan University.
Maintaining better sanitation environment is the only way to ensure tourists in good health, with sanitation preventive measures required to conduct through to the end, Yu said.
Visitors should wash and disinfect their hands before and after going to the World Carnival, and maintain good sanitation habits, said an expert with the Shanghai Disease Prevention and Control Center.
