Licensed apothecaries on the rise

Shanghai's two-year effort to ease the shortage of qualified
apothecaries has been paying off, as local licensed apothecaries have mounted to
5,043, the Shanghai Evening News reported. Citing data from the
authenticating center of Shanghai medicine industry, the report said these
qualified professionals have played a key role in the city's medicine
manufacturing, retailing, logistics and supervising sectors. Of the licensed
professionals, 2,198 have registered and become registered apothecaries, with
723 working in pharmaceutical companies and 1,276 in the retailing
sector. Besides, there are 2,156 unlicensed apothecaries working in the city,
the report said.
