Hospitals extend clinic hours
8/9/2003 18:05

Eight prestigious state-run hospitals in Shanghai will take the city's lead to extend clinic hours from today to improve medical service to local people, the Jiefang Daily reported.
Under the new schedule, patients can visit the outpatient department at these hospitals from 7.30 am through 8 pm on working days and on two half days over the weekends.
The eight hospitals include Zhongshan, Ruijin, Huashan, Renji, Shanghai No. 1, Shanghai No. 6, Putuo Central and Dongfang.
Currently, most hospitals in the city offer outpatient clinic service till 4.30 pm each day from Monday through Friday and on Saturday mornings. Service on the working days suspends for two and a half hours in the noon.
The clinic hours, mostly overlapping with the working time of other companies and organizations, have caused problems for many patients, particularly the working population, some people complain.
Chen Liangyu, the city's Party Secretary, required the local medical institutions to adjust operation hours to better cater to the local people after reading the complaints voiced in a Jiefang Daily report.
Concerned about the complaints from citizens, Chen said the similar problems exist in other government departments and public service sectors.
He urged these departments and sectors to put public benefits on the top priority and take measures to provide more convenient service to the public.
