Drug import cities named

Shanghai is among the 18 port cities that are authorized by the State
Council, the country's Cabinet, to import drugs, according to the city list
announced yesterday by the State Drug Administration. The other 17 cities are
Beijing, Tianjin, Dalian, Qingdao, Xi'an, Chengdu, Wuhan, Chongqing, Nanjing,
Hangzhou, Ningbo, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Haikou. All
drug imports must enter China through the custom offices of these 18 cities,
said Zhang Zhijun, a high-ranking SDA official. From next year, the drug
quarantine administrations of the local customs will only audit customs
clearance for drug imports and leave the drug quarantine work they currently
handle to drug administrations, Zhang added.
