More discount drugstores in city
12/12/2003 18:20

Six new discount drugstores have received building approval in Shanghai, with the total number of such stores expected to hit 11 in the near future, the Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
Among the six drugstores, two will be constructed in Xuhui District, two in Putuo District, one in Luwan District and one in Baoshan District.
Following the debut of discount drugstores, 620 drugstores affiliated with 15 drug chain companies, slashed prices by an average of 20 percent on nearly 1,000 drugs.
However, excessively high drug prices are still a major problem in Shanghai, said an industry analyst.
More local drugstores will be included in the medical insurance system, especially in commercial centers, new towns and areas with dense passenger flow, said the spokesman with the Shanghai Municipal Medical Insurance Bureau.
