30/12/2003 18:21

Shanghai's vice mayor Yang Xiaodu urged local medical sector to continue providing medical aid service to foreign countries at a recent meeting marking the city's 40th anniversary of sending overseas medical aid teams.
"The aid work has been paying off in helping people in countries of poor medical conditions as well as earning a high reputation for China and helping enhance the country's image," he said.
Urging local medical officials to put high attentions to the aid work, he required them to enlist it as key part of their overall work planning for a year.
He asked the local medical workers to develop new areas for overeats cooperation as well as continuing the aid in the existing areas.
To ensure the aid teams are formed by the city's most advanced medical staff, hospitals and medical departments should take measures to help solve living problems for their employees who are sent on the aid team and make good arrangements for the employees' work after their returning from the overseas task, he added.
Yang also encouraged the medical sector to dispatch more medical aid teams to provide medical services to people in overseas countries, mostly in undeveloped areas, and carry them the friendship from the Chinese people.
