Shanghai medical input heavy

In preparation to build the city into a most advanced medical center
in Asia, Shanghai is expanding medical investment, which is expected to hit 5
billion yuan (US$565 million) from 2002 to 2004. While continuing the
construction of the local medical network, it will further increase investment
and launch more policies to help achieve its goals in the sector as well as push
the "public health three-year move plan". It will build a three-in-one public
health center for clinic treatment, research and training as well as set up an
information system. The information, to be shared by medical institutions as
in local diseases, medical experts, material storage and emergency responses, is
expected to help the medical authority to better monitor the city's public
health situation. Meanwhile, Shanghai will input 167 million yuan each year
from 2003 to 2005 to aid the institutional reform of township clinics to
community health service centers.
