Hospital lowers threshold for operation fees
16/2/2004 18:21
Shanghai Ren-ai Hospital announced yesterday to lower the minimum
requirement of the total value for its operation fee installment payment program
by up to 85 percent, the Wenhui Daily reported. Starting today, patients
taking an operation, which will cost more than 3,000 yuan (US$363), will be able
to apply for the installment payment program. The move is an attempt to help
more financially pressed patients to enjoy their medical service, the hospital
said, because the previous base requirement of 20,000 yuan is often complained
too high. Since the launch of the program last year, only three patients have
applied for the program. Under the program, patients pay half of the total
operation fees before they are hospitalized for the operation and 30 percent on
the operation date. They will pay the another 5 percent in the first month after
the operation, 5 percent in the second month and the remaining 10 percent in the
third month.
