23/2/2004 18:22

This year, the Shanghai health department will initiate a three-year program to build Shanghai into a healthy city.
The city will strengthen local disease prevention and health education for residents, conduct long-term control and prevention of chronic diseases, and focus on acute infectious diseases such as SARS and bird flu.
Local communities, residents and schools will be encouraged to play an active role in the program.
In a bid to provide scientific grounds for the local health services, the city will also perfect the community health monitoring network by developing an implementation plan to supervise the main health indices in the city this year
Shanghai will promote health and legal knowledge this year and improve the local environment to enable local citizens to live a healthy life.
