'One yuan' cold drugs available

More than 500 drugstores in Shanghai are expected to sell cold medicine
priced at only one yuan (US$0.12) per package, the Xinmin Evening News reported
today.
"We cannot make profits by selling 1-yuan medicine, but we use it as a
way of offering better services for local residents," said Gu Weizhong, manager
with the Tong Han Chun Tang Drug Chain Co Ltd.
The Guoda Chain Drug Store Co
Ltd and Fuxing Drugstore, two of the five largest drug chain stores in Shanghai,
have exempted the commission charges on these one-yuan cold drugs.
Other
drugstores that plan to offer such cheaper cold medicine are Yang He Tang
Pharmaceutical Co, Shanghai Huayuan Pharmaceutical Co, Lianhua Fuxing
Pharmaceutical Co, New Century Pharmaceuticals, Lei Yun Shang Pharmaceutical
Enterprise.
