Copter landing pads to facilitate emergency rescue
9/6/2004 18:28

Hospitals in Shanghai are speeding up the construction of helicopter landing pads to facilitate the emergency rescue service, today's Shanghai Morning Post said, citing officials with local health bureau.
Changzheng Hospital has completed the landing pad construction, while Huashan's is still under construction.
Ruijin has submitted the proposal for the landing pad and is waiting for the improvement from the health authority.
Shanghai No. 1 People's new facility, which is being built in the suburban Songjiang District, as well as the local public health center are considering building helicopter pads.
Under the city's three-year planning for the medical sector, two cardiology rescue centers, two trauma rescue centers, two burns rescue centers will be built with copter pads.
Copters will rush the patients to the hospitals with almost half time the existing ambulance service takes, officials predicted.
Theoretically, an ambulance will rush the patient to the nearby hospital in 10 minutes, but on many occasions, the ride will be delayed due to traffic jams on the roads, they added.
This month, Huashan, the hospital designated as the emergency medical facility for drivers in the upcoming Formula One Chinese Grand Prix, will finish its helicopter landing pad.
When the race runs on September 24-26, two helicopters will be on stand-by at the race circuit's medical center in Jiading District to send injured racers to the hospital in downtown Jing'an District.
