City mulls e-platform for medicine trade

Shanghai plans to set up a national electronic business center for
medicines in three to five years to facilitate the drug trade, as briefed at
yesterday's seminar to push medical e-business. Once the center is built up,
medical institutes and drug manufacturers across the nation will find it more
convenient to make deals, while government will make it easier to monitor the
drug market and give appropriate directive prices. As well as cutting down
the business costs, the e-trading system will help avoid corruption and illegal
activities, which has long harassed the medicine industry and pushed up the drug
prices, medical officers said. They hoped the e-trade system will become
Asia's first international drug trading center.
