The state Ministry of Health recently began a project for the prevention and cure of SARS/Flu during the winter and spring of 2004-2005.  The project will classify several respiratory infectious diseases as follows: very severe, severe and common.
To improve control over flu inspection and cure, the Ministry of Health is establishing an expert team on flu prevention and cure to provide techniques, training and supervision for flu inspection, to take charge of site information when an epidemic has erupted, and to put forward suggestions for flu projects.
The project emphasizes that under the lead of local health departments, several key provinces such as Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian may set up a health and infection investigations system for persons who have contact with wild animals and poultry.
The Ministry of Health will send a state-level expert team within 24 hours of hearing of the first suspected SARS or Bird flu case from all provinces to determine the situation, and Provincial health departments will send an expert team within 12 hours. The state-level expert team will make the final judgement on those cases first suspected and diagnosed as SARS/Bird flu cases.  Samples from these cases will be double-checked by the state reference lab, the Ministry adds.
