Shanghai East Hospital has signed an agreement on hands hygiene with GO-JO,
an American company. Shanghai East Hospital is the first in the city to
introduce the new concept for hands hygiene, Oriental Morning Post reported
yesterday.
A survey conducted by China Center for Disease Control and
Prevention (CCDCP) indicates that 78 percent of doctors and 61 percent of nurses
in China have never been trained on hands hygiene, which means they don't really
know how to wash their hands! The internal infection rate in several hospitals
exceeds 50 percent, which leads to over 3,000,000 deaths every year.
Besides
the project on cross infection control in Shanghai East Hospital, the CCDCP
plans to standardize hands hygiene measures by publishing a handbook on
that.
