"80 percent of those coming for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) tests are young men.  One was even a teenager," said doctors from the Disease Control Center in Minghang District who were expressing their concern.
Of 88 registered voluntary testers, 65 are younger than 35, said Dr. Wang from AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) and social disease control department in the center, and most came for HIV tests only after highly dangerous sexual intercourse.
Protection of the young men from the AIDS virus was urgent, not only because of the coming World AIDS Day on December 1, but for daily life as well.  The doctors suggest abstaining from drugs and un-protected sexual intercourse to the city's young men.
The disease control center in the Minghang District is the city's pioneer in providing free HIV testing and consultation.  Information and policies related to AIDS will be available on the hot line (95120) as of December 1, according to the Xinmin Evening Post.
