Despite the present temperatures of around 20 degrees centigrade, weather experts have forecast next winter's arrival in early December, the Youth Daily reported yesterday.
The low on December 1 was 12.9 degrees centigrade, the high, 18.7.   Today figures are expected to be around 12 and 20.
This so-called warm winter is postponing winter shopping plans.  "It's still so warm in December.  Down clothing might be useless this winter." said Miss Gao, a student from the East China Normal University.  She bought several different cute Christmas gifts with the money originally saved for down products.
Late November to early December is usually the transitional period from autumn to winter, with a comparatively unsettled weather.  A continuous five-day period below 10 degrees centigrade in daily average temperature will mark the beginning of winter. 
A warm winter is a climatic concept, compared with the average daily temperatures.  However, it does not mean there will be no sudden cold spells, weather experts warn.
