A recent survey
notes an increased incidence of breast diseases in local women, today's Shanghai
Morning Post reported. Conducted by a private hospital and the Women's
Federation in Changning District, the survey found that 51 percent of the more
than 2,600 local women who were given health checkups by the hospital have
breast diseases (a broad term for many diseases such as breast hyperplasia and
cancer). As well, women between 20 and 50 are most likely to suffer from the
disease. It is estimated that the incidence of breast disease in local women
has tripled in the past 30 years. "The incidence rate of breast disease in local
women has already exceeded that in Tokyo, " said Professor Jin Zonghao, a doctor
in Tongji hospital. According to Jin, Asian women are two or three times more
likely to get breast diseases than western women.
