The Zhongshan Hospital, Ruijin Hospital and Shanghai No.1 People's Hospital yesterday became the city's first training centers specifically for training doctors in interventional techniques for the treatment of heart diseases. This is part of a local move to standardize interventional treatment.
Upon completion of the training, the doctors will be certificated in interventional treatment.
Over the last 20 years, a growing number of treatments for cardiovascular diseases have been developed. Interventional techniques, with its success rate and short treatment period is proving very popular. However, without a uniform treatment standard, operations in China have high rate of complication and recurrence, which causes an excessive waste of medical resources, said an industry analyst.
The Ministry of Public Health will issue training textbooks, classes and test procedures soon.
