At a recent diagnostics seminar, several local physicians appealed for an objective attitude towards using ultrasonic diagnosis for the early detection of stomach cancer and tumors, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
Endoscopy, which is often extremely painful for the patient, is the traditional way of examining for stomach cancer and tumors. However, During the stomach ultrasonic diagnosis the patient experiences no pain as all that he is required to do is drink a special liquid and lie still.
Several experts voiced their disagreement with ultrasonic diagnosis saying that it may miss early signs of gastric cancer or tumors, and that the biopsy conducted during endoscopy is vital in diagnoses.
Despite this, the majority of doctors agree that ultrasonic diagnosis is a very important complement to endoscopy. As well the Doctor's skill, experience and patience are important during diagnosis through either method.
One local expert in alimentary tract illnesses, also suggested that medicine in the 21st century should focus more on the concerns of patients.
