Local students will be admitted to nearby kindergartens, elementary and
junior middle schools without examinations this year, the same as last year,
today's Laodong Daily reported.
According to the Shanghai Municipal Education
Commission yesterday, there are nearly 160,000 junior middle school graduates
this year, 110,000 elementary school graduates, and nearly 100,000 kindergarten
graduates.
Most children with local permanent residency can enter public
kindergartens; with abundant educational resources, all those of the proper age
can be enrolled by local public elementary and junior middle schools, said an
industry analyst with the commission.
During the compulsory education period,
no examinations can be used to select students, nor can schools divide students
in different classes based on their performances. Schools doing so will be
sanctioned, the analyst stressed, adding that schools in serious violation of
the rules will be asked to suspend recruiting.
Private schools without
residences are not allowed to recruit students citywide, he added.
