Cab shortages for examinees

The figures for taxi bookings these days show that the cab supply is far from adequate during the three days of the university entrance examinations, said the dispatching centers from local taxi service companies, reported today's Youth Daily.
Since 2003, the date of the university entrance exams in Shanghai has been changed to June 6,7 and 8.  This year, the exams will be taken during workdays.  As a result, the examinees' rush hour will coincide with that of the office workers'.  Most parents cannot send their children to the examination room by private cars due to having limited time in the morning.
Almost 100 bookings, most of which run for three days, had been arranged before dawn yesterday, and over 500 cabs had been reserved, said Chen Jianmin, director from the Qiangsheng dispatching center.
Officials from the other two big local dispatch centers, Dazhong and Jinjiang, both promised to make available as many cabs as possible for examinees' use during those three days.
While at the same time, they also suggested that public buses and bicycles are still the best transport vehicles for short distance.
