Thirty students from Shanghai's East China University of Science and
Technology will set off on a 15-day tour in Beijing this summer, a competition
to improve the students' capabilities for working and surviving, the Shanghai
Evening News reported.
The school has started receiving student applications
for the contest today.
The students will compete in ten groups from July 11
to 17. Each group will have a start-up of 150 yuan (US$18). They have to work
with their major skills to earn money to live in the capital. The group
which makes the most money and gives the best performance will win the
contest.
The money each student makes will be divided into three parts. One
part will be mailed to the parents and the other two will be separately donated
to the "Hope Project" education aid programs in Beijing and Shanghai to help the
needy students there to go to school.
At the previous ECUST survival
competition last April, 21 students in seven groups survived three days in the
Yangtze River Delta cities by working to support themselves.
Realizing the
difficulties in finding a suitable job, many of the participants had to take up
manual labor to earn a living.
