Some lucky local primary school students now may learn about the eco-system and environmental protection from their new Science textbook, reported today's Oriental Morning Post.
The first lesson of this new Science textbook, which is an experimental one quoted from the "Oxford Primer Science", is about the harm done to the forest by the overuse of paper.
"The total consumption of moon cakes last year was 8 million boxes, " the textbook writes. "If the boxes were stacked up, their height would equal 1,800 Jinmao Towers (420.4 meter's high for each Tower). "
Besides vivid descriptions, the textbook also raises many interesting and thoughtful discussions at the end of each story with such questions as "What are the results of the overuse of the underground water in Shanghai? " and "What kind of material can replace wood to make furniture?"
Miss Xia, who's in charge of Science courses at the Zhabei Experimental Primary School, praised the new textbook.
She said the old edition talked little about things on the eco-system and city development, not to say environmental protection. However, now these kinds of problems have really raised concerns from both public and the relevant education administrations.
"It's very meaningful. " smiled Miss Xia.
