Domestic big-name universities have begun to compete for the top students at Shanghai's high schools this year, an earlier start than last year, eastday.com reported today.
Tsinghua University will hold entrance exams this weekend, followed by Fudan University and Jiaotong University with exams next month.
"We will accept applications up to December 7, and our test is set for December 17. Fudan will hold exams in eight domestic cities - Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shenyang, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Xi'an and Chengdu. We will decide on the students admitted to our university, or to enjoy our preferential policies, by mid-January of next year," said a spokesman with the recruitment office of Fudan.
Shanghai Jiaotong University will hold two sittings of exams, with one for Shanghai-natives on December 18 and the other for non-local candidates on January 2 next year. "We will also set up seven or eight locations for exams to be held across the country for the convenience of non-local candidates," said Prof. Luo Zhe.
Based on the exam results, candidates will be graded at four levels - A, B, C, D, and together with their performance records in high school, 5-20 points will be added to their total marks for the national college entrance examination, Luo pointed out, adding that as next year's Spring Festival will be earlier than usual, the exams are also earlier than last year.
