School for Taiwanese children planned
4/6/2004 17:38
The Taiwan Affair Office of the Shanghai Municipality and the city
education committee jointly held a meeting yesterday on the issue of schooling
Taiwanese children in Shanghai.
Currently, more than 3500 school-aged
children from Taiwan are attending primary or middle schools in Shanghai. With
the enhanced cultural and economic ties between the two regions, that number is
growing, the meeting said.
Most Taiwanese in town are willing to send
their children to local schools or schools for international students. Yet some
business people who travel frequently would prefer their children attended
schools exclusively for Taiwanese children.
Educational administrators
are assessing the possibility of setting up exclusive Taiwanese student schools.
Recruitment will hopefully start this year, the meeting
indicated.
