Schools take protective measures for cold and flu season
20/2/2003 14:33

In addition to disinfecting classrooms and play sections, teachers at Sinan Road Kindergarten are checking kids for illness when they come to school. Kids who show symptoms are separated from the others and given treatment.

This is one of the routine measures local educational institutions are taking to protect children in the city from the spread of illness during cold and flu season.

Children are more susceptible to infection during the transition period from winter to spring because of fluctuating temperatures.

According to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, tomorrow's high will be 18+ Celsius, with a low of 6.

Shanghai Shibei Middle School is also taking steps to keep students healthy.

Teachers there have been disinfecting all 58 classrooms and laboratories each day after school, and have added two microwave ovens for students to warm their lunches.

The lunches prepared by the school include ingredients thought to guard against infection, such as garlic.

School leaders also paid a visit to Shanghai No. Six Hospital yesterday to get information on how to best protect youngsters against illness in early spring.
