Local education authorities have set out to select the best teachers in Shanghai and planned to crown them as the first group of "Top 10 Meritorious Teachers" in the city, the government website reports today.
The selection, to be held every five years, aims to give honors and laureates to the excellent teachers in Shanghai who have made great contributions in their career.
The Shanghai Education Commission and Shanghai Human Resources Administration, joint organizers of the activity, plan to announce the award on September 10, the Teacher's Day festival.
The 20 candidates for this year's award were the results of a one-year campaign that started last June and got all the teachers in both the elementary and higher education sectors involved.
Starting today, resumes and stories about the feats of the candidates will be posted online for a week for public votings at the websites of all the universities and collges, district and county education comissions, www.eastday.com and www.21shte.net.
