High thresholds to 'president program'
16/7/2003 14:41

Fudan University, a prestigious university in Shanghai, has set high thresholds for the trainees to be enrolled to its 'president program', which cost an average 1,000 yuan (US$121) a day, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
Except that the qualified trainee must be a senior executive of a company to match the title of the program, the person must work for a company with annual sales exceeding 100 million yuan.
For normal programs provided across the city, trainees are admitted so long as they pay the tuition fee and, sometimes, pass the entrance examination.
The higher thresholds Fudan set are to build up the quality and image of the 'president program' out of the mushrooming business programs throughout the city, according to Fudan officials in charge of the program cited by the Shanghai Morning Post report.
As well as providing professional knowledge and skills, the program is to help form a social circle for the trainees from the similar business background, which is particularly important for company executives, the officials said.
Only in that case will the trainees find the high price they pay worthwhile, they added.
Meanwhile, the high thresholds seem paying off, according to the officials.  A deal was reached between two trainees at the program on the first day of classes.
