World prestigious universities such as Cambridge, Yale and Tokyo have
enrolled eight local students this year, the Shanghai Morning Post reported
today.
The students are graduates from local high schools, including High School
Affiliated to Fudan University, No 2 High School Affiliated to East China Normal
University, Shanghai High School and High School Affiliated to Shanghai
International Studies University.
They have obtained the university admission after passing strict entrance
examinations. All of them have been granted scholarships.
The eight selected graduates are top students with sturdy academic
background, broad knowledge scope, a good command of a foreign language and
strong capability of social activities and independent living skills, according
to teachers from High School Affiliated to Fudan University.
Other top universities across the world have come to the city to enroll
students, they added.
Their school, for example, has sent students to Princeton, Harvard, Cornell
and MIT in the past years.
While reflecting that the city's elementary education has started to be
recognized worldwide, the overseas enrollment has posed a threat to China's
universities by stealing away the sources of outstanding students, teachers
said.
