Shanghai will continue the measures to help needy students to complete their
high education, not having any students meeting this year's university entrance
requirements to quit their study because of financial problems. Wen
Hui Daily reported today A official from Shanghai Education Commission (SEC)
said local universities and colleges will continue the so-called "green passage"
which has been implemented successfully for consecutive 10 years. This year's
needy freshmen wil receive their entrance registration before they pay the
tuition fees. Some universities has set up a reception centre for the needy
frshma, offering accumomocation before registation.The help includes
scholarships, subsidies, fee reduction or exemption and part-time jobs
poor students can finace their education by taking a part time job as a TA(teach
assistant) or RA(research assistant) in the campus. To make the city's financial
aid policies clear to local students and their families and prevent students
from abandoning the education opportunity for financial concerns, the education
authority has printed the favorable policies on the university entrance notices
delivered to every student enrolled. Commercial banks also jion hands with
the universities, offering a low-interest education loans. In addition,
Shanghai Education Commission (SEC) takes out a certain amount of assist funds
every year, combined with the aids from various social associations to ensure
poverty-stricken students accomplish their education.
