The Shanghai Committee of the Communist Youth League of China announced yesterday the results of this year's Ten Outstanding Young Persons election, the 10th year for the event in the city.

Yao Ming, the basketball player who is now playing for the Houston Rockets in the US, is one of the 10 selected.

The others are Yu Jingzi, nurse with Putuo District People's Hospital, Ma Jia, chief designer of the Long March II Rocket, Liu Wujun, vice general manager of Shanghai Maglev Transportation Development Co, Sun Kun, deputy party secretary of Xinhua Hospital, Zhang Wenrong of Shanghai Gold Apple School, Chen Ting of Shanghai Bureau of Public Security, Lin Kaiwen, director of Shanghai Kaiquan Pump (Group) Co., Ltd., Huang Zheng, reporter of Shanghai Media group and Liao Changyong, dean of Shanghai Musical Conservatory's locality department.
