Locals cautious about studying abroad

Locals are taking a more rational approach towards studying abroad.
Some consultants having their recovery-rate measured before heading abroad.
Recovery rate refers to an assessment of investment and returns, based on
analysis of consultants' schools, disciplines and the matches with their
employment prospects, and also the comparison between their costs and
prospective salaries after coming back, the spokesman said.
40
percent of the total consultants at the CBP Career Consultants Co Ltd in
October, up 15 percent from a month before, the Wenhui Daily reported
today. More than 80 percent of the consultants scrapped their plans to study
abroad after the measurement, said the spokesman with CBP Career Consultants Co
Ltd.
The popularity of such measurement is resulted from the frequent
frustration suffered by returned students, said an industry
analyst. Generally speaking, 70 percent of returned students should find
satisfactory jobs within three months, but only 48 percent of such students
found jobs in Shanghai during the period this year. Among the remaining 52
percent, six percent had to continue their studies abroad. A growing number
of locals studying abroad blindly without thinking twice has made them ignore
the importance of choosing suitable schools and disciplines, leading to failure
in finding jobs after graduation, said Bian Bingbin, a commissioner with the
Chinese Human Resources Management Technological Consulting Commission.
Professional experience, skills and related certificates are the three most
important qualifications for a job-hunter, so people, even with overseas
academic diplomas, can hardly find good jobs if they give up their original work
experience, Bian said.
